What if you lived in the 20s and you couldn’t be with the woman you loved?

The Great Gatsby was the third novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald and it was published in 1925. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American novelist, screenwriter, and short story writer. During his lifetime he published 4 novels, although he temporarily achieved success and fortune in the 1920s, Fitzgerald only received wide critical and popular acclaim after his death.

The Great Gatsby is a novel that tells the tragic love story between Jay Gatsby, a millionaire, and Daisy Buchanan, his one true love. The action begins when Nick Carraway, Daisy's cousin, moves to New York to a wealthy neighbourhood and becomes Gatsby's new neighbour. Gatsby used to throw gigantic parties, at his mansion, so he could catch Daisy's attention and finally reconnect with her. One night Gatsby and Daisy leave together to the city in Gatsby's car and on the road, they run over Myrtle, who was Daisy's husband mistress. Daisy was the one driving the car but to protect her Gatsby tells everyone that he was guilty. Myrtle's husband finds out and he murders Gatsby. In the end Gatsby dies and all that fame and fortune is thrown out the window.

This novel was created for young adults and teenagers who cherish epoch novels, and the purpose is to criticise the idea of the American Dream, because no matter how hard Gatsby tried to become wealthy, at the end of the day he dies alone.

Through this book, the author is trying to emphasize social differences and show how easy it is for rich people to escape the consequences of their own actions.

Even though I was not too happy with the ending, I still recommend this to everyone who love novels, because it really is a page turner and when you're reading it you always want to know more.
